Shirley Henderson
With a distinguished film career spanning more than two decades, Shirley is perhaps best known for her iconic performances as Moaning Myrtle in the HARRY POTTER franchise and as Bridget Jones’ chardonnay-loving confidante, Jude, in the BRIDGET JONES films alongside Renée Zellweger. Her acclaimed turn opposite James McAvoy in FILTH earned her a BIFA nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and she received multiple awards for her performance in Juliet McKoen’s FROZEN. In 2023, Shirley was honoured with a BAFTA Scotland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television.
Shirley’s extensive film credits include collaborations with many celebrated filmmakers, such as Danny Boyle’s TRAINSPOTTING, Michael Winterbottom’s WONDERLAND and 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, Mike Leigh’s TOPSY-TURVY, Shane Meadows’ ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE MIDLANDS, Lone Scherfig’s WILBUR (WANTS TO KILL HIMSELF), and Jon S. Baird’s STAN & OLLIE. She delighted audiences worldwide as the fan-favourite character Babu Frik in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX – THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, and reunited with for her eighth collaboration with Michael Winterbottom opposite Steve Coogan in GREED.
On television, Shirley has starred in Sally Wainwright’s HAPPY VALLEY (BBC), won the Scottish BAFTA for Best Actress for her performance in Channel 4’s SOUTHCLIFFE, and led THE TAMING OF THE SHREW opposite Rufus Sewell (BBC). She also headlined THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET (Channel 5), starred alongside Martin Compston in BBC’s THE NEST, and appeared in Mackenzie Crook’s acclaimed remake of WORZEL GUMMIDGE. In 2023, she lent her voice to the Anzellans in Jon Favreau’s THE MANDALORIAN (Disney+).
In 2018, Shirley made a celebrated return to the stage, winning the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her critically acclaimed performance in Conor McPherson’s GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY.
Shirley Henderson can currently be seen starring in Scott Frank’s DEPT. Q for Netflix as well as in Kirk Jones’ feature film I SWEAR. She also recently reprised her role as Jude in BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY.
