Clare Dunne is a multi-award-winning Irish actress and screenwriter. She gained international acclaim with her debut feature as co-writer and lead actor in HERSELF, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to critical praise. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and produced by Ed Guiney, Sharon Horgan, and Rose Garnett, HERSELF earned Clare a BIFA nomination for Best Actress.
Most recently, Clare appeared opposite Cillian Murphy in the critically lauded feature SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE, which premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival, and starred alongside Orlando Bloom and Catríona Balfe in THE CUT. Upcoming projects include 500 MILES opposite Bill Nighy and MISS PIRIE AND MISS WOODS directed by Sophie Heldman. Her additional film credits include Ridley Scott’s THE LAST DUEL for 20th Century Studios and KATHLEEN IS HERE, directed by Eve Birthistle.
On television, Clare stars in BBC’s acclaimed crime drama KIN, playing the complex role of Amanda Kinsella across two seasons, opposite Charlie Cox and Ciarán Hinds. She also recently appeared in Season 3 of Amazon Prime’s high-concept fantasy series THE WHEEL OF TIME.
Clare also has an extensive theatre background, including collaborations with Ireland’s Abbey Theatre and the UK’s National Theatre. She previously worked with Phyllida Lloyd on an all-female Shakespeare trilogy at the Donmar Warehouse, performing in HENRY IV and JULIUS CAESAR —a landmark stage project that received widespread acclaim.
Clare is currently filming a role in GROWN UPS, the adaptation of Marian Keyes’ brilliant novel by the same name.
