BRENDAN COWELL

Brendan Cowell is a multi-award-winning Australian actor, writer and director who has worked consistently across all mediums. He most recently appeared in HBO’s DUNE: PROPHECY and Paramount+’s CASTAWAYS, and will next be seen in Apple TV+’s DISPATCHERS. He played Mick Scoresby in James Cameron’s AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER and the latest sequel AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH. Upcoming projects include TV shows HIGH COUNTRY and independent film DISPATCHER, alongside Maxine Peak.

He earned an AACTA nomination for his role as Gary Thorne in the acclaimed series THE TWELVE.Brendan’s other TV credits include GAME OF THRONES (HBO), THE BORGIAS (Showtime), and PRESS (BBC One). In Australia, he’s known for LOVE MY WAY and THE SLAP (both of which he also wrote for), as well as THE END and BROCK. His film work includes NOISE and BENEATH HILL 60.

On stage, Brendan starred in Simon Stone’s YERMA opposite Billie Piper (Young Vic and Off-Broadway), LIFE OF GALILEO (Young Vic), John Proctor in THE CRUCIBLE at London’s National Theatre and can currently be seen in Simon Stone’s LADY & THE SEA alongside Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln at the Bridge Theatre. In Australia, he has led productions of HAMLET for Bell Shakespeare and TRUE WEST, directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman for Sydney Theatre Company. 

As a filmmaker, he wrote and directed RUBEN GUTHRIE, based on his acclaimed stage play, which opened the London Film Festival. Brendan is also a published author; his debut novel HOW IT FEELS was a bestseller, and his second, PLUM, was nominated for the 2022 Indie Book Awards and was made into a highly successful TV series.
